What is a Motor?
It is the component that provides thrust to the rocket, working on the principle of action-reaction. Depending on its fuel, it can be liquid, solid, or hybrid. Solid-fuel motors are commonly used in model rockets. Before starting the rocket design, motor analysis and selection are necessary. Due to their hazardous nature, it is recommended to procure them commercially rather than manufacturing them. For safety reasons, it should be the last component to be assembled onto the rocket.
Motor Selection
Motors with high acceleration, speed, or burn duration can be chosen based on the rocket’s design. For this, the burn profiles of the motors need to be analyzed and compared. For the most accurate burn profiles, it is advisable to review the graphs prepared by the manufacturers.
